Chris Hall - Eb Bass

Chris is currently 20 and is working as a Software Developer in Bolton. He started playing cornet when he was 7 years old. He was taught by Hayley Moore and was soon asked to join the Junior Brass Band at the Rochdale Music Service. Chris then started playing Euphonium under Hayley before eventually settling for Eb Bass soon after. Chris then started having lessons under Yamaha Artist and Euphonium and Tuba Soloist, Steven Walsh. After starting lessons and playing in the intermediate band that Steve conducted, Chris joined the Rochdale Borough Youth Band in January 2010. Under the conductors Eric Landon, Stuart Lingard, and Steve Walsh, Chris won the National Youth Band Entertainment Championships, also receiving the Best Basses award. He came 2nd and 3rd at the Youth Band Nationals, and 3rd at the European Youth Brass Band Championships. He has also been Co-principal Eb Bass in the Greater Manchester Youth Band since it was founded under the conductors Richard Evans, and Mark Peacock. With these youth bands alone, Chris has played in Germany on several occasions, the Symphony Hall in Birmingham more times than he can count, Perth Concert hall in Scotland, the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester among many other locations in the UK. In 2013, Steve Walsh invited Chris to play for Championship section band, Wardle Anderson Brass. In his first contest, he played Kenneth Downies' St. Magnus and still regards it to be one of his favorite pieces he has ever played. Chris joined Whitworth at the end or 2014 ready for Butlins Contest and the area.
